Goring Family Forever Home

An aging house was given a new lease of life with a full renovation, extensions and second floor conversion.

The Red House is an attractive 1930’s property situated in the riverside village of Goring-on-Thames which lies within the Chilterns AONB. 

It sits within a large plot despite the fact that its grounds were sub-divided historically, when a new house was built on the existing tennis court. When we were approached it was  in need of extensive renovation and reorientation to face the reduced garden. 

Internal alterations improved arrangements at ground, first and second floors, and the extension provided a new living room, a master bedroom suite and a guest bedroom. Mechanical and electrical services were replaced throughout and an oak-clad outbuilding was designed to house the paraphernalia of modern family life!

The extension uses traditional gable forms and carefully selected materials that respect the original architecture while modernising the home. The Red House is exactly the kind of renovation we love - where historic character and new interventions are woven together to create a unified, harmonious design.
